Description
Located in Toronto's downtown Cabbagetown neighbourhood, Riverdale Farm is a working farm and community meeting place. The farm provides visitors with insight into farm work, representing life on rural farms in Ontario. The farm also features over 3 kilometres of trails and daily farm demonstrations.
Originally owned by early settler John Scadding, the City of Toronto purchased the Riverdale Farm property in 1856, naming it Riverdale Park. Later in 1894, Riverdale Zoo was officially opened, serving as Toronto's first zoo until its closure in 1974. The Riverdale Farm officially opened on September 9, 1978, aiming to provide children with the chance to see how a farm works.
